I have opinions about Bothell bars, and I’m not afraid to order a second round before sharing them. This town straddles a strange line between suburban comfort and genuine character, where you can get a whiskey milkshake that demands contemplation and a tavern burger that demands nothing at all.

My recent circuit took me from the boisterous chaos of a live music night at Darrell’s to the quiet, intentional polish of Beardslee’s happy hour, and the contrast is the whole point. Some places here nail the basics with stunning reliability, like a prime rib omelet that could feed two, while others, like the 522, still feel like they’re finding their footing after a two-year hiatus.

You need to know where to go, and more importantly, what to avoid. So here is my entirely subjective, deeply researched guide to the bars worth your time.

Highlights
Addictive popcorn worth trying
Unique beers on tap
Fast to-go service
Kid and dog friendly patio
Brussels sprouts highly recommended

I walked into The Bine Beer & Food on a Tuesday evening with no particular expectations, and I left with a bag of their popcorn that I finished before I reached my car. The popcorn is genuinely addictive, a salty, buttery trap that should come with a warning label. The tap list skews toward the unusual, which I appreciate, and the to-go service was fast enough that I almost felt guilty for not sitting down. The patio accommodates both children and dogs, which is either a selling point or a deterrent depending on your disposition. Order the Brussels sprouts. They are the reason I will return.

Saturday: 12 PM–11 PM
Highlights
Local favorite neighborhood tavern
Great beer and friendly staff
Comfortable spot for dark brews
Friday food truck availability
Quick-growing brewery appeal

The Hop and Hound is the kind of tavern that makes you wonder why you ever bother going anywhere else. It is a local favorite for good reason, and the staff remember your name after the second visit, which is either charming or slightly alarming depending on how often you go. The beer selection leans dark and comfortable, perfect for a rainy Bothell evening. Friday nights bring a food truck, and the crowd spills onto the sidewalk with a sense of purpose. The brewery appeal is growing quickly, and I suspect this place will only get busier. I recommend arriving early.

Saturday: 10:30 AM–9 PM
Highlights
Happy hour smashburger and fries
Gluten-free spicy chicken pizza
Simple dishes done right
Stout-infused deviled eggs
Five-star service and atmosphere

Beardslee Public House does not try to impress you with complexity, and that is precisely its strength. The happy hour smashburger and fries are exactly what they should be, crisp, salty, and satisfying without any pretension. The gluten-free spicy chicken pizza surprised me, not because it was gluten-free, but because it was actually good. The stout-infused deviled eggs are a curious addition that works, the stout adding a roasted depth that cuts through the yolk. Service was five-star, and the atmosphere felt polished without being stuffy. I left with the rare feeling that someone had actually thought about what they were doing.

Highlights
Anniversary acknowledged with warmth
Cheesecake devoured before photos
Best coffee of entire trip
Dim, relaxing brunch atmosphere
Late brunch service excellent

The Cottage handled my anniversary with a warmth that felt genuine rather than scripted, which is a rare thing in the hospitality business. The cheesecake arrived and disappeared before I thought to photograph it, which should tell you everything about its quality. The coffee was the best I had during my entire trip, robust and properly hot, which is not as common as it should be. The brunch atmosphere is dim and relaxing, a welcome change from the aggressively bright spaces that plague most morning establishments. They serve late brunch without any hint of annoyance. I appreciated that deeply.

Highlights
Rich, complex whiskey milkshakes
Tender steak and fall-apart ribs
Attentive, personable service staff
Clean, tavern-appropriate atmosphere
Generous handling of timing mishaps

Hollywood Tavern serves a whiskey milkshake that is rich and complex, the kind of drink that makes you pause mid-sip to consider what exactly you are tasting. The steak was tender, and the ribs fell apart with minimal encouragement, which is the highest compliment I can offer any meat. The service staff were attentive and personable, and when a timing mishap occurred with my order, they handled it with a generosity that made me forget the inconvenience entirely. The atmosphere is clean and appropriately tavern-like, neither too polished nor too rough. I would return for the milkshake alone, but the food gives me another reason.

Highlights
Spacious, cozy, welcoming ambiance
Excellent tea and boba
Kids’ burgers cooked perfectly
Helpful, friendly staff
Great for work or chat

The Breakroom is spacious in a way that makes you forget you are in a bar, and cozy in a way that makes you want to stay for hours. The tea and boba are excellent, which is not something I expected to say about a place that also serves alcohol. The kids' burgers were cooked perfectly, which is a detail that matters when you are dining with small people who have strong opinions about doneness. The staff were helpful and friendly without being intrusive. I saw people working on laptops and others engaged in deep conversation, and both seemed equally at home. That versatility is harder to achieve than it looks.

Attentive, friendly, and helpful staff
Delicious tostada and quesabirria
Great hibiscus cocktail with kick
Pleasant music and welcoming atmosphere

La Gloria Modern Mexican Bar greeted me with music that was pleasant without demanding attention, and the atmosphere felt welcoming in a way that is difficult to manufacture. The staff were attentive, friendly, and helpful, and they guided me toward the tostada and quesabirria, both of which were delicious. The hibiscus cocktail had a kick that I did not expect, a pleasant heat that lingered just long enough to remind me I was drinking something with intention. The space felt modern without losing its warmth. I left with the sense that this place knows exactly what it is, and that confidence is contagious.

Board games while dining
Tavern-like D&D atmosphere
Fair TCG market pricing
Friendly, accommodating staff
Fun, flavorful dragon burger

Zulu's Board Game Cafe is exactly what it sounds like, and that is a compliment. You can play board games while you eat, and the atmosphere leans toward a tavern-like D&D session, which is either your thing or it is not. I found it charming. The TCG market pricing is fair, which is rare in a world where cardboard prices fluctuate like stocks. The staff were friendly and accommodating, even when I asked for a rule explanation on a game I had never played. The dragon burger was fun and flavorful, a gimmick that actually delivers. I will be back with a group.

Best Indian in Bothell
Posh ambience, attentive staff
Owner personally checks guests
Indian and Mediterranean fusion
Generous portions for groups

Bay Leaf Bar & Grill is the best Indian food in Bothell, and I say that with the confidence of someone who has eaten a lot of Indian food in Bothell. The ambience is posh, almost unexpectedly so, and the staff are attentive to the point of making you feel like a guest rather than a customer. The owner personally checked on my table, which is a touch that never fails to impress me. The menu is an Indian and Mediterranean fusion that works better than it has any right to. Portions are generous, and I left with enough food for another meal. That is value.

Highlights
Great live music venue
Amazing bartender service
Fun group gathering spot
Classic bar snack menu

Darrell's Tavern is a live music venue that happens to serve drinks, and the combination works. The bartender service was amazing, efficient and personable, and they managed to keep up with a crowd that was clearly there for the music rather than the cocktails. The bar snack menu is classic, nothing fancy, but it does the job when you are standing for two hours. This is a fun place to gather with a group, and the energy is infectious. I did not come for the food, and I did not leave disappointed. The music is the draw, and it delivers.

Warm welcome, instant comfort
Prime rib omelet impresses
Reopened after two years
Hope for original chef's return

The 522 Grill & Taps reopened after two years, and I walked in with cautious optimism. The warm welcome I received made the caution feel unnecessary. The homemade sauces are worth sampling, each one distinct and clearly made with care. The prime rib omelet impressed me, a hearty dish that could easily serve two people. I hope the original chef returns, because the current kitchen is doing solid work, but there is a sense that something is missing. The comfort is instant, the kind of place where you settle into your seat and forget the time. I will be watching this one closely.

Saturday: 10 AM–2 AM
Highlights
Spacious, friendly local pub
Shannon’s welcoming, standout service
Excellent pesto chicken sandwich
Reliable sides, generous portions
Prime rib best avoided

Thrasher's Corner Sports Pub is spacious and friendly, the kind of local pub where the regulars nod at you when you walk in. Shannon's service was standout, welcoming without being performative, and she made the entire visit feel effortless. The pesto chicken sandwich was excellent, the pesto bright and the chicken properly cooked. The sides were reliable, and the portions were generous enough that I skipped dinner that night. The prime rib, however, should be avoided. I tried it once, and it was tough and underseasoned. Stick with the sandwich, and you will leave satisfied.
