The 48-Hour Insider Itinerary to Seattle

Join our Seattle Secrets newsletter and get our 48-hour insider itinerary to the top hidden spots in Seattle.

  • Custom 3-stop crawl with QR codes for easy navigation
  • 5 photo-worthy hidden gems (Instagram gold)
  • Insider timing tips: when to go to skip crowds
  • Top spots in your inbox every week

Stanwood doesn’t need a food truck parade to prove itself; it’s got a strip of dining that punches well above its population size. You’ve got the swanky after-work cocktail lounge where the bartender will invent something for you, and just down the road, a bar dishing out happy-hour plates that taste like someone’s abuela is in the back, priced like it’s still 1999.

The range here runs from an anniversary-worthy Mahi Mahi on a pond-view deck to a disc golf resort serving ribs in three spice levels that justify a twenty-mile drive. That’s not even touching the cake worth an 80-mile haul.

So whether you’re craving a thick-cut sashimi fix or a burger that requires a cake box for leftovers, this list has your next move covered.

No wait for tables
Consistently delicious dishes
Frequent-visitor favorite

I walked into Shima expecting the usual sushi-bar shuffle, but there was no wait at all. The service was friendly and attentive without hovering, and the sashimi arrived in cuts so thick they felt almost indecent. Everything I tried tasted consistent and clean, which is why I keep coming back. This is the kind of place where regulars nod at you from the counter. If you like your fish generous and your experience unpretentious, Shima delivers. It’s not fancy, but it doesn’t need to be. Just good, honest sushi at a pace that respects your evening.

Comedy gold dining experience

Mammoth Burger Company doesn’t mess around with skimpy patties. The burgers are enormous, and the custom buns hold up to the weight without falling apart. Their fries are legitimately awesome, and the burger salad option is a clever nod for anyone dodging carbs. But the real draw? The dining experience is comedy gold. I watched a guy try to tackle his burger with both hands and a serious game face. If you leave hungry, that’s on you. They even hand you a cake box for leftovers. That’s confidence, and it’s earned.

Vivo Italian Bistro feels like a place that remembers your name, even if it’s your first visit. The service is warm, attentive, and blessedly unhurried. House focaccia arrives with herbed oil that you’ll want to bottle. The peppercorn tenderloin came out perfectly cooked, pink and tender as ordered. The lavender lemonade is a surprise that works, and the limoncello-style lemon tart is smooth enough to end any argument. This is the kind of meal where you linger long after the coffee’s gone. No rush, no fuss, just solid Italian hospitality.

It’s swanky without being stuffy, and the crowd is friendly enough to chat with. You’re a short stumble from both Vivo and Mammoth, which makes it a perfect midpoint for a crawl. The cocktails are memorable, and the vibe is social without being chaotic. Bring a friend, or don’t. You’ll leave with a new one anyway.

Highlights
Affordable home-cooked happy hour
Worth the twenty-minute drive
Classic old-school bar vibes
Great beer selection
Good pub-style food

Low Bar Stanwood is a twenty-minute drive from my house, and I make it without complaint. The happy hour feels like someone’s home cooking, priced like it’s 1999. It’s an old-school bar with worn edges and a good beer list, which is exactly what I want on a Tuesday. The pub-style food is solid, the kind that sticks to your ribs. It’s not trying to be fancy. It’s trying to be comfortable, and it succeeds. If you’re looking for a low-key evening without the pretension, this is your spot.

Highlights
Best crab Rangoon’s around
Generous lunch portions served
Friendly owner takes care
Great Thai flavors overall
Inconsistent quality recent orders

Stanwood Thai serves the best crab Rangoon’s I’ve found in the area. They’re crisp, creamy, and worth the trip alone. The lunch portions are generous enough to make dinner unnecessary. The owner is friendly and clearly cares about your experience, which goes a long way. That said, the recent quality has been a bit inconsistent. Some dishes sing, others land flat. It’s still a good Thai option, but don’t be shocked if one visit outshines the next. I keep returning for the Rangoon’s, and I suspect you will too.

Blue Heron Kitchen and Bar turned my anniversary dinner into something I’ll remember. The smoked maple cocktail was smooth and subtly sweet, a great start. The Mahi Mahi came out expertly cooked, flaky and moist. The deck overlooks a small pond, which adds a calm, romantic backdrop. It’s casual upscale, meaning you can dress up or down and still fit in. The menu feels refined without being fussy. Service was attentive but not intrusive. If you’re celebrating something, or just want a nice evening, this is the place.

There’s a lounge with games and karaoke, so you might stay long after your appointment. It’s a welcoming space for everyone, no matter who you are or how you show up. This is a community spot disguised as a salon.

ACES BBQ is tucked inside a disc golf resort, which sounds odd until you taste the ribs. The portions are generous, and the prices are fair for the amount of food you get. The ribs come perfectly cooked, saucy without being soggy. You get three spice levels, and all of them are flavorful. This is worth the drive from anywhere in the county. I drove twenty miles, and I’d do it again. The setting is casual, and the service is friendly. If you’re a fan of good barbecue, don’t let the location scare you off. It’s a find.

She asked the right questions and delivered exactly what I wanted. This is my go-to for special occasions now. The reliability is unmatched.
